December 2011
Dear Parents,
I am writing to all parents of our student drivers. We are nearing the winter season, with potential snow days, possibly early dismissals, and some days when we have school, but the roads may not be as safe as normal due to residue from cleanup crews. We want to communicate with you about our general policies for student drivers in these situations.
First let me say that student safety is always our ultimate concern. We will not ever knowingly put students at risk. However, it is not always possible to have complete information in every case where a decision has to be made. With that in mind here are some of our guidelines:
1. If you don’t want your son or daughter driving due to conditions, just call the high school office and we will give an excused absence for that day.
2. You may also call and request your son or daughter be allowed to leave early and we will also allow for that as excused.
3. On any day we have to close school early, the student drivers are dismissed immediately, as soon as the decision is made, even if buses won’t arrive until later.
4. No special arrangements will be allowed for student drivers to take other students home.
As always, our school closings are posted on our school web site and on primary
commercial television stations (channels 3, 6, and 10). If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at my office. I will be happy to speak with you.
In Christ’s Love,
